How do you take a screenshot on a Chromebook
Making a screenshot is not so difficult you would say? This is indeed what you would think, but there are some laptops that know how to make it a bit complicated. One of these laptops is the Chromebook. It is a super handy device, but there are still some things hidden. Today we show you in this blog how you can easily make a screenshot with your Chromebook, it saves you a lot of effort and frustration.
Chromebook: making a full screenshot
You may be familiar with the screenshots in Windows or MacOS, but with Chromebooks things are slightly different. The process is not drastically different, but it is no longer the same as you are used to with older laptops. To take a screenshot of everything you see on the screen of your Chromebook,
- hold down the Ctrl key and then press the Switch Window button.
- This last button is usually located in the top row,
- between the Full-screen and Brightness down button.
What does he look like? Usually it is a rectangle with two small lines.

When you press both buttons you will see a notification in the lower left corner of the screen that you have made a screenshot. Screenshot image files are stored directly in the Downloads folder of Chromebook, so you can open them even when you are offline. Click on the notification to open the Downloads folder and to copy the image.

Make a partial screenshot
Chrome OS can also select a part of your screen for taking a screenshot. You do this in the following way:
- Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys simultaneously and then press the Switch Window button.
- The chrome cursor is temporarily replaced by a small cross.
- Click and drag a square over the part of the screen that you would like to save and release your mouse.
- The partial screenshot is saved in the Downloads folder, in the same place as your full screenshots.
Take a screenshot in tablet mode
A number of Chromebook are two-in-one tablets, so you don’t have access to the keyboard in tablet mode. Don’t worry; there is a simple screenshot short cut that you can use while you are in tablet mode.
- Press the on / off and volume buttons simultaneously. The screen registers the screenshot and makes an image of the entire screen.
- If you have a special pen that you use in tablet mode, it is possible to make a partial screenshot. This screenshot also all ends up in your Download folder.

Edit screenshots – how do you do this?
You can of course share the screenshots made by Chrome OS with all your contacts. But what should you do now if you want to make another adjustment? In this case you will want to edit your screenshot. Below you will find the step-by-step plan for adjusting and editing all your screenshots:
- Open the Downloads folder and click twice in a row on your screenshot to open it in the image viewer.
- Click on the pen icon in the lower right corner of the window to enter edit mode. Tools for cropping, rotation, and brightness adjustments appear at the bottom of the window.
- When you are finished you have to click on the pen icon again to complete your edits. With the built-in editor it is not possible to save copies, so you will have to copy the image before you adjust it.
